In October, 1975, a small group of local tennis enthusiasts and visionaries met at Lady Bird Johnson Memorial Park to create the Fredericksburg Tennis Association (FTA), a nonprofit 501 C Corporation. Its stated purpose, "promoting greater interest in tennis locally as an ideal sport for our community", gathered momentum over the years resulting in an organization today five times its original size. Some of those early players remain active today lending credence to our current moniker, "providing sport, fitness and friendship for a lifetime". FTA has evolved into an official USTA certified Community Tennis Association, an organized group of dedicated volunteers and professionals who provide and support programs that promote and develop the growth of tennis.
