Fredericksburg Tennis Association

432 Lady Bird Drive
Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Phone: (830) 997-7185

http://www.playtennisfredericksburgtx.com

In October, 1975, a small group of local tennis enthusiasts and visionaries met at Lady Bird Johnson Memorial Park to create the Fredericksburg Tennis Association (FTA), a nonprofit 501 C Corporation. Its stated purpose, "promoting greater interest in tennis locally as an ideal sport for our community", gathered momentum over the years resulting in an organization today five times its original size. Some of those early players remain active today lending credence to our current moniker, "providing sport, fitness and friendship for a lifetime". FTA has evolved into an official USTA certified Community Tennis Association, an organized group of dedicated volunteers and professionals who provide and support programs that promote and develop the growth of tennis. While our members enjoy our many tennis activities we do much more and work very closely with community government and schools as partners in promoting the growth of tennis, fitness and facilities. The HEB Tennis Center at the local High School is a direct result of grass roots fund raising by the FTA. Many improvements made to the Lady Bird courts over the years have been accomplished with FTA dollars raised through membership dues, tournaments, donations, sponsorships, grants and old fashion diplomacy. Each year graduating seniors are the recipients of FTA scholarships. We sponsor leagues, tournaments and socials to all members and visitors of all ages at a price everyone can afford. If you like tennis, charity, fitness and enjoy meeting people joining FTA is a no-brainer. Take a look around our website and decide for yourself then come and give us a try. You'll be glad you did.

http://www.fredericksburgnaturecenter.org

The Fredericksburg Nature Center, located at Lady Bird Johnson Park, offers a unique blend of diverse habitats to visitors, one that can be found nowhere else in Texas. Fredericksburg is located in the center of several geologic and biologic regions in the southeastern corner of the Edwards Plateau. Geographic location, considered alone, contributes to the overarching diversity found there. More particularly, the Nature Center is fortunate to be a focus of diversity because of the local hydrology and geology. Within the Nature Center's ten acres you will find 11 distinct habitats, among them: Post Oak savannah; Wetland; Riparian; Old growth Live Oak woods; Native Texas prairie; Cedar brake; Lake aquatics; Mud flats; Lake islands; Springs and seeps. That one small area offers so many species of birds, forbs, grasses, woody plants, amphibians, reptiles, and insects is truly amazing. Come visit the Fredericksburg Nature Center and see for yourself!

http://www.amblesidefredericksburg.com

Ambleside is a nonprofit private Christian school for the Hill Country, committed to setting the standard for practice in Charlotte Mason education and establishing a resource and seedbed for educators and schools. Our long-term goal is to create a global Ambleside community of schools united in the practice of Ambleside education. Ambleside provides a broad and varied curriculum of inspirational and disciplinary subjects, through direct encounter with literary living books and living art, music, science, mathematics, geography, language, nature, and handwork. We offer small classes and minimal homework in the elementary school. No standardized tests or letter grades are used. Our main pedagogical method is written or oral narration. Twice yearly essay exam periods are an important educational tool at Ambleside. An opportunity for students to bring forth and show what knowledge they have attained, exam time is a call to synthesize and summarize, master and make sense of main ideas and facts, while developing the child's competence in clear thinking and verbal expression. At Ambleside, all children participate in the broad curriculum-all children calculate, solve, attend, explore, ponder, recite, paint, and sing. We strive to offer students the richest materials along with our highest expectations of what they can accomplish. We expect every student to learn and grow to full potential as a person, born in the image of God, into a vast inheritance. Ambleside School admits students of any race, color and national or ethnic origin.
